Back to back breathing

During one of our Circle Time sessions, we talked about the emotion of 'Feeling angry' or 'Kei te pukuriri'.  We talked about how it is ok to feel angry at times and how it is a perfectly normal feeling.  We then talked about what makes us angry, how our body and mind feels when we are angry and shared ways to calm ourselves down.

One strategy the children know is breathing so we learnt a new breathing technique called Back to Back Breathing.  The children sit back to back with someone and feel their partner breathing, their shoulders going up and down.

We practiced with a buddy and the children really enjoyed it.  They said they felt relaxed, calm and sleepy.
